Care Services FAQs

What is domiciliary homecare or daily domiciliary care?
Our domiciliary care service means you can stay in the comfort of your own home, while our team of carers will support you with personal care activities like bathing and dressing, reminding you to take your medication or simply helping you out with odd jobs around the house. They can also take you to hospital and medical appointments, go to the shops, cook you dinner and even remember to feed your pets!

Whether you need someone to visit you once a week or someone helping you with your daily morning and/or night time routine our team will be there to support you.

What kind of domiciliary care training have my carer received?
All our daily home carers undergo a rigorous recruitment and training programme and we only work with carers who are totally committed to the job. The training has been specially designed by FHL Care trainers, who have all been carers themselves and know exactly what it means to provide the best possible hands on – and heartfelt – daily home care.
How do I arrange home care for myself or a family member?
Our staff at FHL Care will be happy to discuss your requirements with you over the phone and then if your happy we will arrange an assessment which will normally be carried out in your home. We suggest that at this time you involve any family members you wish, who may have some questions of their own.

Having discussed your needs and requirements we will then put together a package that suits your individual requirements and agree a start date.

Do you provide home care in my area?
Please visit our ‘Home Page’ section in this website for details of the locations we cover.
What if my circumstances change?
We are flexible with what we do and fit our services around you, so if at any time your needs or preferences change, this can be modified and updated on your support plan.
What if I need services that you haven’t advertised on your website?
At FHL Care we pride ourselves in offering an extensive variety of care and support packages and we do our utmost to meet our clients’ needs. We will often work directly with other healthcare professionals to ensure each and every one of our clients is getting the care they need. If you feel you require support that hasn’t been outlined on our website, please do not hesitate to contact us to have a more detailed conversation about your requirements. The care we provide is very flexible and adaptable which allows us to support people with many different conditions. We will always strive to meet your needs, no matter what they are, so please give our friendly staff a call on 01708609343 or arrange a meeting with one of our assessors.
I do not need any physical help in my day-to-day life, but I would like somebody to just visit me once a week to check I’m OK and to provide a bit of company. Is this possible?
Certainly. At FHL Care we provide a companionship service which can be added onto a support plan or just be received on its own. Even if you require no physical support, one of our carers can visit you as often as you like to provide you with some company. Together you can go on walks, take day-trips, visit your family and friends, or just stay at home and enjoy a nice coffee together.
I’ve just been discharged from hospital after an accident and I need support in my own home while I recover. I have never received support before, what can I expect?
We often provide support for clients after a spell in hospital and many of them have never received any care before. We understand that the prospect of being cared for by a stranger can be a bit daunting, especially as you may still be recovering from the shock of an injury/surgery. We ensure that we provide our service in the most compassionate, sensitive manner and that the transition from hospital back to your home is as smooth and comfortable as possible. Our staff are all kind, warm and very friendly and they will help ease you into the care routine, considering your wishes and preferences along the way. Your happiness and wellbeing is of paramount importance to us and we will always put you first.
How long can I receive care from you for?
As long as you wish.
Is there anything my care worker is not able to do?
Once we have established exactly what you want on each visit, we will work to that list. We are not able to give injections or change sterile dressings. Also, we cannot carry out tasks which are likely to cause risk to either the person we provide care to or to the FHL Care staff member. Tasks will be agreed with you in advance. Any changes to the plan can be discussed with your local FHL Care team.
What about my personal security?
Every member of the FHL Care team has been through a rigorous vetting procedure before they start working with us. In addition, all staff will always be in uniform and carry a personalised identification card which shows their name and photograph.
How can I be sure that my care worker will stay the full period of the care visit and carry out all the tasks?
We take a careful and comprehensive approach to ensuring that your care service is exactly what is required. After every visit the care worker will write the details of activities undertaken during the visit in the care record (which is retained by the customer). In addition, the customer is asked to record their satisfaction by signing the care worker’s timesheet, which is returned to the FHL Care office each week for checking
How do I pay for my care?
We will send you a bill once a month.  We accept bank transfers, however setting up a standing order is the preferred  method by most of our clients.
What happens when the office is closed?
Our offices are open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Aside from this, we operate an out of hours service. You will be provided with the phone number when we start providing care for you.
Do you deal with medication?
Yes, we can assist/administer medication. All our care staff receive comprehensive medication training followed by a competency assessment before they are allowed to administer medication unsupervised.
How long does a typical visit last?
We agree visits length with our service users at the assessment stage. We will agree how long we think the visit may be and continue to monitor the visits to ensure that the level of support being provided is satisfactory.
Can I choose to have a male of female carer?
Yes, of course. We will provide a carer to match your personality and needs as best as possible. We believe that the match has to be right to enable you both to interact in harmony, keeping your needs at the heart of everything we do.
Do you also provide care services during Public/Bank Holidays and during the weekends?
Yes. We are able to provide care services 365 days a year. This includes Public / Bank Holidays and Weekends.
